The
most common form of the hydrangea plant is the shrub. These
hydrangea plants generally prefer full to partial sun, and
need shade from the afternoon sun in hotter climates. Most
of the shrubs will bloom only on stems grown the previous
year. The flowers are grown in clusters comprised of several
smaller blooms. Some of these hydrangea plants are hardy,
while most are tender. It is interesting to know that the
color of some hydrangea plant blooms varies, depending on
the pH level of the soil.
Another
form of hydrangea plant is the climbing vine. Climbing hydrangea
plants are very popular because of the beautiful blooms, and
the non-aggressive nature in which they grow. The first few
years after planting a climbing hydrangea plant will show
slow growth, but the rate will increase once the plant is
established.
